Documents
Patent translation work is a specialised field, one that requires experienced, specialist translators.
Key features:
- Translation of specifications and related documents by experienced patent translators
- Proven quality control processes, including a full second translator review of the translation
- Option of selective translations where appropriate
Patent translators must:
- understand what patents are and do, their structure, and key patent and trade mark terms and concepts;
- command the specialised patent terminology (prior art, claims, etc) in both their source and target languages;
- be sound technical translators;
- be highly accurate and employ effective quality control procedures in their translation process.
This requires specific training. The engineer or scientist
turned translator must learn about patents and be trained in
sound translation methodologies. And the experienced translator
must be trained in the specific requirements of patent translations.
Our experience is that even the most experienced translator
or technical expert can, and unfortunately do, come unstuck
when they haven't acquired this specific knowledge – obviously
with potentially significant consequences.
Pacific International Translations has excellent patent translators
covering a wide range of technical fields in all major patent
languages.
We also employ strict quality assurance processes, including
a second translator check of all patent translations before
dispatch. This procedure is partly a safety check, just to make
absolutely sure the translation is completely accurate, and
partly a quality check, with a specific review of the key terms
and phraseology used to describe the invention, a check for
consistency of terminology, and general review of clarity of
expression.
Pacific International Translations also offers the option of a selective translation - the translation of selected parts/sections only - where a translation of the full document would not be warranted.

The Advantages of using Pacific International Translations:
Experienced Patent Translators
Pacific International Translations uses only experienced specialist patent translators for the translation of patents and patent related texts. This includes both experts in the field of the particular invention, and qualified translators who have developed expertise in patent translation.
Strict Quality Control Systems
Great care is taken to ensure all patent translations produced at Pacific International Translations are of a high professional standard. Only proven, experienced translators are used for patent related texts. Once the thorough initial translation is completed, this is checked and proofed by a second translator to ensure accuracy and eliminate possibilities of error. A further editing process to ‘polish’ the final text may also be undertaken.
Excellent Reference Resources
We make full use of the IPC to confirm the translation of key terms relating to the invention, and of course the Internet, specialist dictionaries and other technical reference materials for technical terminology.
Respect for Deadlines
We appreciate the inviolability of deadlines in patent matters, and that translations are thus sometimes required under urgency. We will meet all delivery dates we commit to without compromising quality.
Translation Options
In addition to full translations we can also provide a Selective Translation of a document. For example, where applicable the translation of just the abstract and/or claims and/or selected sections will provide significant savings in time and cost.
Confidentiality
Naturally, absolute confidentiality of all material is guaranteed at all times.
